Straight answers about renting a power bank from a Charged YYJ station in Victoria, and about getting a free station for your bar.
How much does it cost to rent a power bank?
A rental is $9 flat, and PST is included. There's no hourly charge.
Is there a hold on my card?
Yes. When you pay, your card gets a temporary $39 hold, not a charge. Return the power bank within 24 hours and you're charged only $9; the other $30 is released. Some banks show the full $39 until the hold drops off, which can take a few business days.
How do I pay?
Scan the QR code on the station's screen with your phone and pay on your phone with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit card. Payments are processed by Stripe. Interac and most Canadian debit cards are declined, because they can't hold an amount. You don't need to download an app.
How long can I keep the power bank?
Up to 24 hours. Return it to any Charged YYJ station within 24 hours of renting it.
Do I have to return it to the same station?
No. You can return the power bank to any Charged YYJ station, not just the one you rented from.
What happens if I lose the power bank or don't return it?
If the power bank isn't returned to a station within 24 hours, the $39 non-return charge applies: we charge the full $39 hold ($9 rental plus $30 for the power bank), and the power bank is yours. If you return it within 7 days after that, we refund the $30.
Will it work with my phone?
Very likely. Each power bank has Lightning, USB-C and Micro-USB cables built in, which covers iPhones and Android phones. You don't need to bring your own cable.
How much charge does the power bank hold?
Each power bank is 5,000 mAh. That's enough to bring a low phone back to a comfortable level for the rest of the night.
Where are the stations?
Charged YYJ is launching in December 2026 with stations in bars and venues in downtown Victoria, BC. We'll post station locations on chargedyyj.ca as they're installed.
I run a bar. How do I get a station?
The station is free for your venue. You earn 15% of every $9 rental (before tax), paid monthly. We install, service and swap power banks, so your staff don't have to do anything. It needs one regular 120 V outlet and runs month to month with 14 days' notice to cancel.
What does the station need from my venue?
Some counter space and one regular 120 V outlet. The station has eight power bank slots and a 10.1-inch screen. There's no wiring or drilling.
