Rental terms and return policy
Price. Each rental is $9 CAD flat for one power bank, PST included. There is no hourly charge.
Card hold. When you pay, your card gets a temporary $39 CAD hold, not a charge. Return the power bank within 24 hours and we charge only $9; the other $30 is released. Some banks show the full $39 until the hold drops off, which can take a few business days. Because Interac debit can't hold an amount, Interac and most Canadian debit cards are declined. Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards work, including in Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Returns. Return the power bank to any Charged YYJ station within 24 hours of renting it. Stations are inside venues, so they are open when the venue is open. If you give us your email when you pay, we email your receipt; you can also ask for a receipt by email.
If you keep it. If a power bank is not returned within 24 hours, we charge the full $39 CAD hold ($9 rental plus $30 for the power bank) and the power bank is yours. If you gave us a phone number or email, we remind you before this happens. If you return it within 7 days after that, we refund the $30; email us if the refund hasn't appeared within 3 business days.
Refunds. If a station charges you but does not release a power bank, or the power bank does not charge your phone, contact us and we will refund the rental in full. Refunds go back to the original card and usually take 5 to 10 business days to appear.
Care. Please do not open, puncture, or leave the power bank in water or extreme heat. We never charge more than $39 in total for one rental, including a lost or damaged power bank.
Privacy
Who is responsible. Privacy Officer: Finley Taverna, Owner, Charged YYJ, finleytaverna@gmail.com.
What we collect and why. For each rental we record the card brand and last four digits (never the full card number), the station, the power bank, and the rent and return times. We use this to run your rental, charge the right amount, send refunds, handle disputes, and keep the records that tax and product-safety laws require. Your phone number or email is optional; if you give it, we use it only for your receipt and return reminders. We never send you ads unless you opt in.
Who sees it. We don't sell your information. We share it only with the service providers that run Charged YYJ for us: Stripe (payments), our station software provider, and our email or text provider. They may store or process it outside Canada, for example in the United States or Asia, where authorities there may be able to access it.
How long we keep it. Rental and payment records are kept as long as tax and product-safety laws require, up to 6 years. Phone numbers and emails are deleted 12 months after your last rental, unless they're needed for an open dispute.
Your rights. Email us to see, correct or delete your information. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC at oipc.bc.ca.
